Coupon Lingo

Yes couponing has it's own language and once you get familiar with the language things will not be as hard. 

B1G1 or BOGO = Buy One Get One Free or can also be

B2G2= Buy 2 get 1 or B2G1 is Buy 2 get 1 (you get the idea)

Beep = When you scan a coupon sometimes the register will beep when a coupon is scanned indicating that the computer is not accepting the coupon. At this point the coupon would need manager approval such as entering in the price or denying the coupon.  

B&M – Brick and Mortar meaning a physical store/building (as opposed to online shopping)

Blinkie = This is a coupon machine in your store by the product that prints out coupons for you.

Cartwheel - Target discounts that give you a % off certain items.  You can sign up here with Target Cartwheel and they can be redeemed via Smartphone app or printing the list and barcode. This can be used at Target stores as a discount in addition to both a manufacturer coupon and a store coupon.

Catalina = This is a coupon that prints out at the register that is a special coupon that is either money off your next purchase or a certain product.

Competitors – Grocery Stores will take coupons from other stores. For example as noted Publix's in our area take competitors coupons from Target, Winn Dixie, and Save A lot and Winn Dixie takes mostly anything from Publix, Target, Family Dollar, Walgreens, CVS and more.

Coupon Policy – This is kinda of like a rules for the store regarding how they do coupons. They mostly tell you what competitors they take at that store, if the store doubles or triples coupons, take expired coupons, and whether they take internet printed coupons. FYI no store around here doubles or triples coupons!

Coupon Inserts – These are books filled with coupons that come in Sunday papers and also sometimes in the ads mailed to you during the week. These are typically sent out by Smart Source (SS or S), Red Plum (RP) and Proctor & Gamble (PG)They are also refered to as inserts, S, SS, RP and PG.

DG= Dollar General 

DT= Dollar Tree 

Ebates: The only way to shop online. Earn cash back on all online purcahses if you go threw this HOT website first. Easiest way to earn extra cash. Sign Up here before you plan to buy anything online. This is my favorite website by far.

ECB = Extra Care Bucks is a slang you will get to know if you shop at CVS. They are used only at CVS as a coupon used on your next purchase.

EBT-  Food Stamps

Exp – Expires/Expiration date 

FD= Family Dollar

Filler – Refers to an item purchased to comply with a coupon policy or a specific coupon. For instance when seeing a scenerio for a Win Dixie or Publix deal when the total is $28.00 the match up may call for a filler which means to find something of the needed value to comply with the coupons. For instance if your total is $28.00 then you would need a $2.00 filler to get to the $30 mark to be able to use your $5 off $30.

GAF= Publix Green Advantage Flyer is a flyer that is put out by Publix which mostly has food products.

Hangtag- A Coupon found on an item hanging for instance on a soda bottle.

Ibotta = Cash Back reward application for smart phones you can sign up here

Internet Coupon = You can print coupons off company websites, store websites, and coupon websites these are called Internet coupons. Most will let you print 2 max per computer. You may have to okay the download for the printer but as long as you have safety walls and such you should be fine.

ISO: In Search Of

LU= Look up which is a number on Publixs coupon instead of scanning the coupon they enter in the LU#

MANUFACTURER = a type of coupon that are put out by the products makers or marketing.

MDM= This is a Spring Hill Coupon Club Original and it stands for Marked Down Meat. Which you can find discounted at local Winn Dixie's. 

MIR = Mail In Rebate.

MM= Money Maker which is when a coupon value exceeds the cost of the product some stores allow for cash back to be given or applied to the cart. 

NCR= Not Coupon Related meaning a post that does not relate to coupons. 

NLA: No Longer available. Coupon on coupons.com do not remain forever and neither do special promotions but if you printed the coupon when it was available or got a rain check with a past sale. 

OOP = Out-of-Pocket. This is the amount of money that you have spent after coupons.

PAF= Publix Purple Advantage Flyer is a flyer that is put out by Publix which mostly has to do with beauty and health items.

P&G= Proctor and Gamble which is one of the names of the inserts that are received in the paper. 

Peelie = Coupons found on products in the store

Policy= Each store chain has it's own rules as to coupons and some stores also have their own policies or what that they interrupt each policy rule.

R= Regional coupon. Some coupons are of different value or only available in certain areas. Meaning a $2 coupon for a box of cereal found in California will be a regional coupon. 

Raincheck = If a sale is ending and the product is out of stock you can ask customer service for a rain check. A slip of paper they will give you so you can get it later (not some items can not be rechecked)

Register Rewards or RR= Used only at Walgreens. They work like cash on your next order.

RP= Red Plum which is one of the names of the inserts that are received in the paper.  

SAHM= Stay at Home Mom. Most couponers are stay at home mothers who juggle the day to day activities with their housework children and doing coupons to help save the family money.

Stacking Coupons = When a store SUCH AS PUBLIX will let you use their own store coupons (also competitors coupons) along with a manufacturer’s coupon for the same item.

Seasonal Couponer= One that coupons once in awhile. Either when Summer hits or when school is in session. 

SHCC= Spring Hill Coupon Club

SS= Smart Source which is one of the names of the inserts that are received in the paper. 

Shelf Clearer – A term used to describe a couponer that buys all the products on a full shelf of items.

SMH – Shaking my head

Tearpad – A pad of coupons or rebate near a product or on display
